Detailed Tangier Tour itinerary

Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen - Fes

We at Morocco Trips - Morocco trusted travel company for Sahara Tours from Tangier - we organise Desert Tour in Morocco. During the first day of the trip, we will meet you at the port or the airport and drive through the Rif mountains and Tetouan city, enjoying the views of the beautiful mountains until we get to Chefchaouen, a stunning village at the foot of the Rif mountains. The medina of Chefchaouen has a Spanish-style square surrounded by many funky arts and crafts stores, roof-top restaurants and cafes. We continue to Volubilis, crossing via Wazan and other Rif villages. In Volubilis, we will discover the roman ruins and learn about the archeological site and its long rich history. After the visit to the ruins we will shift our way to Meknes city, the 17th century stronghold where we will stop for lunch and explore different sites, such as the historical huge walls of the medina, Bab Mansour Gate and Moulay Ismail mausoleum. After the visit to Meknes, we will drive directly to Fes, where you will spend the night at a riad.

Day 2: Fes medina tour

We will first visit the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its labyrinthine streets, medieval passages, and covered markets. After the medina, we will visit the historic El Quaraouyine Mosque, founded in the 9th century and the tomb of Fes's founder, Moulay Idriss. We spend the afternoon in the Nejjarine art museum, which is located on the site of the first schools and theological universities in Morocco (known as Seffarine and Bou Anania). You will find that the Moroccans prefer to visit the souks in the late afternoon because it is cooler and the daily chores are finished. We will visit the souks then to best enjoy the colors and life of the medina and city. Overnight in your Riad.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou- Erfoud - Merzouga

We pass through Ifrane, a winter ski resort in a totally un Moroccan style built by the French in the 1930′s to resemble a Swiss village;we visit the cedars forest in azrou you will see the monkeys , drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Half way, you will stop for lunch in a nice traditional restaurant in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks, then we continue towards merzouga in the road we will stop in a panoramic views to see the a huge oasis of palm tree ,Reach the Hotel in Merzouga for Diner with Saharan Music and Overnight in The Hotel .

Day 4: Merzouga Tour

We visit the Gnawa people - whose origin is traced back to Mali, Senegal and Sudan- in their village Khamlia, where you will learn about their music and lifestyle. Later, we will drive in the desert area to meet nomad families to explore their way of life. Lunch will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza). You will also have the option to visit the old city of Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty from which the current ruling royal family in Morocco originates. Rissani is surrounded by about 360 ksars (fortified villages with many towers) and has a big souk (an open market), held three times a week. Once called Sijilmassa, this was the meeting place for the salt caravans, heading to Tombouctou in Mali. In Rissani, you will walk through the souk, selling spices, vegetables and cloths. Then, you will get back to the village of Merzouga. In the afternoon, you will ride a camel, guided by an experienced camel-man, and explore the hidden sides of the highest sand dunes in Morocco. Dinner will be served in front of the tent where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Merzouga - Erfoud - Tinghir - Boumalne Dadès

We leave the desert and go to Erfoud and then head towards Todra Gorges in Tinghir. After visiting its steep rock faces, we will have lunch in a typical restaurant. We continue to the Dadès Gorges and see the rock formations in the shape of monkey fingers. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Boumalne Dadés.

Day 6: Boumalne Dadès - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

We pass through the Valley of Roses to arrive at Ouarzazate, which has a famous film studio. From there, we head to the Ksar (fortified village) Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its interlaced houses, towers, and stores are a beautiful example of traditional Berber architecture. Then, we visit the mountain village Télouet, where the Dar Glaoui, the former seat of one of the most powerful Berber tribesmen, is located. Afterwards, we continue to Marrakech. Overnight in a traditional Riad in the medina.

Day 7: Marrakech Guided Visit

Enjoy full day tour to visit Marrakech. The visit will include: the Menara gardens, a magnificent pool surrounded by flowers, the Koutoubia Minaret, the Saadian Tombs, the museum of Dar Si Said with the best display of Berber arts and crafts, and the Bahia Palace…lunch will be in local restaurant, after that we walk through the colorful Souks of Marrakech.
